How Game Masters Know You’re Good at Escape Rooms

Sep 19 2024 | Blogs

Game Masters love puzzles–it’s our profession, and we love to share our wisdom and know-how when it comes to escaping. That’s why we love giving so many tips in our blogs, like telling you how Game Masters know you’re good at escape rooms. After some intensive polling of all of our Game Masters, we’ve boiled it down to three important things we love to see people doing during their escape game. We’ve all seen the power of groups with a positive attitude, and it results in everyone being an active part of the puzzle-solving process. So, let’s get into it!

Working together

Now, you may be thinking: “Obviously we have to work as a team!” What we want to highlight is that working together as a team is built on mutual respect. Respecting each others’ ideas within an escape room is important because it takes a whole team to succeed at an escape room! Sure, one of your friend’s methods of problem solving might seem odd to you, but respect and trust your friend’s thought process! They could be onto something that could solve that really tricky puzzle that is stumping you! Trust your collective process and stick to working together; we love to see it because it’s a great way to know you’re good at escape rooms!

Active listening

Communication is key to puzzle solving in escape rooms! Active listening is about paying attention to the verbal and non-verbal aspects of what your teammates are communicating. We’ve seen that groups who are active listeners get less frustrated while working on complex and in-depth puzzles. Active listening is a tough practice under pressure, but actively listening to each other in an escape room is a sign that your team is on track to succeed, and makes for an amazing experience!

Positive attitude

Having a positive attitude is one of the most important advantages that we’ve seen a group have. We know that it’s tough when you’ve spent the last three weeks playing escape rooms and not escaping; but, coming into a new room with a negative attitude affects everyone’s morale. Staying positive means that you’re not wasting time on petty arguments and conflict. Plus, having a positive attitude increases your energy and receptiveness to new ideas! Remember that the bottom line is that you’re here for fun; we don’t want you to walk out of the room dejected because you didn’t escape. Escape rooms are meant to be a fun experience for everyone!

When we see groups working together, actively listening, and having a positive attitude, we know they’re having a great time! It’s also a good indicator that the group has the best chance of successfully escaping the game. Overall, your escape team is there to have fun so keep building on your teamwork and keep trying!
