On any given day at Escape Games Canada we’re asked about the popularity of our missions, and we think it’s time to address the myth of the “most popular” game. There’s a huge misconception behind trying to book the “most popular” game, and we find that groups looking to have fun tend to get hung up on making sure they book the absolute best experience for their team. Here’s the thing: there is no “most popular” game. All of our games fill up at about the same rate, so there isn’t any one room that stands above the rest. So instead, we’ve come up with three ways for your team to book YOUR most popular escape room, like looking at what genres your friends enjoy, the type of puzzles you find the most engaging, and of course encouraging you to make a decision together.
Genre
Have your friends been raving about a brand new book or movie that they just started? Maybe it’s a fantasy, mystery, or even a horror? Just like a book or show, what other people find “popular” might not be what you and your friends enjoy being immersed in. Especially with an escape room, you’re in there for an hour, so it’s a big commitment based on someone else’s taste. So, you should prioritize a room with a theme that you know will make you feel immersed while playing. But remember to keep your friends in mind; if they don’t like horror, maybe skip the scary games this time.
The type of puzzles you enjoy
Forget the myth of the “most popular” escape game, you’re the ones who know your friends best! Do your friends find logic puzzles satisfying? Do they like task-based puzzles where you know what you need to do but the trick is getting it done? Try to find out what types of puzzles your friends find the most engaging. If your friends play a lot of video games, that’s a great place to start to find out what it is about escape games they would enjoy the most. The bottom line here is that if you and your friends focus on booking a room filled with puzzles you know you’ll enjoy, it will bring you all together to succeed in the room.
Deciding together
What’s most popular for some people might not be what’s most popular for your friends, so the best escape room for your team is the room your whole group will have the most fun with! An escape room is a collective experience that is determined by the people you bring in. The skills and energy your group brings into the game are what is going to make it a memorable experience. Get in touch with your team and put it to a vote–all escape rooms are different and you can’t go wrong by deciding together.
A popular game amongst your friend group is more valuable than public opinion when it comes to the myth of the “most popular” game. All escape rooms are different, and because each one is unique they’ll speak to your group in different ways. All recommendations aside, rest assured that if you and your team leave your game feeling fulfilled and energized, then congratulations! You’ve successfully chosen the most popular game.
