How is it already August? It seems like just a week ago we were all unified in suffering through a heat dome, and now we’re running headlong toward the cold seasons–and with that, school (yikes). Here’s 5 things to do before summer ends and it’s back to the grind!
- Visit Toronto Island
If you haven’t visited Toronto Island yet, you should at least get one visit in before it gets too cold for the ferry to take you across. Enjoy the views as the ferry sails away from the city of Toronto and takes you to a sheltered, sweet escape from the busy city and its traffic. Ride a bike, go for a swim, or just enjoy the nature walks available there.
- Host a barbecue
Already hosted a couple of barbecues this summer? Host another one! This is the best time of year to sit on a patio sipping an ice cold drink while enjoying a barbecue meal with your closest pals–an especially appreciated reprieve after solving a challenging escape room earlier in the day (hint hint). No 5 Things to Do Before Summer Ends list would be complete without a barbecue.
- Enjoy Pedestrian Sunday in Kensington Market
One of the more culturally diverse areas of the city that still hasn’t been urbanized, Kensington Market has a Pedestrian Sunday on the last Sunday of every month where the district closes off the streets to cars and allows pedestrians to walk about freely. Shop owners set up outdoor stalls, there’s music, there’s hot and fresh food, and there’s a whole world of interesting businesses to explore.
- Have a movie night
Finished with your barbecue? Time for a movie! Grab your pals, set up the TV (we recommend a projector and screen for large groups), and start the show! Don’t want to be indoors? That’s fine–Toronto has several drive-in screens as well as outdoor movie screenings that you can book ahead of time in the Distillery District.
- Play an escape room!
If we haven’t hinted at it enough, we’ll tell you outright–you should come play an escape room! Especially on a particularly hot day when you want to be out of the house but don’t want to fry yourself alive baking under the sun all day. Escape Games Canada has air conditioning in every room so you can escape reality AND the hot weather! Each room only runs for an hour, which leaves plenty of time for the other 5 things to do before summer ends.
Summer’s pretty short and there’s a lot to do–especially for students who have to cram all their vacation time within a few short months. Escape Games Canada is busiest during the weekends, which makes the weekdays an ideal time to come for a game–so here’s your itinerary: Wake up on the last Sunday of the month and head to the island. Then make your way over to Kensington Market for Pedestrian Sunday, followed by Escape Games Canada for an escape room; then it’s a barbecue and a movie! There ya go, the perfect summer day!
