We’ve been asked time and again the same curious question: How often does EGC make new rooms? Players coming out of their mission, who have played the rest of our games and now are hungry for something new, tend to hover at the desk, casually asking when we’re releasing our next room. While we have no set dates on the horizon, trust us–the build team has been busy scheming. While there is no set shelf life for a room, here are a few factors that go into the conception of a new mission.

How long has it been since our last new mission?

Currently, Escape Games Canada is at max build capacity. We just don’t have any more space in the building to build a new room, which means if a new mission comes in, a pre-existing room is getting demolished. If a room is going up on the chopping block, we’ll normally have promotions and discounts for players who haven’t had a chance to complete that mission yet to come play. How do we decide which mission gets the axe? A couple of factors go in, one of which is how old it is. Has it had a good run? If we only built it a year ago, it is not high on the list of getting phased out. Then again, The Haunting of Noriko is still one of our most popular missions, and it’s been here since the inception of Escape Games Canada. So another deciding factor is:

How popular is it?

Do people like it? Do people leave reviews about it? Is it still full on a weekend? Scary missions tend to be popular, which is why Crossroads and the Haunting of Noriko are still around. Mindshaft, on the other hand, has been around since 2018 and because when it first came out we were able to run it twice as often as our other rooms, most people who have played with us before have already played Mindshaft. So is it as popular as The Haunting of Noriko? Debatable, but Mindshaft doesn’t have the allure of also being scary. So even though a mission might not be the oldest room at EGC, if it isn’t performing as well as other rooms, it’s likely next to get the axe.

What else is on the build schedule?

As Escape Games Canada was recently bought by Jigsaw Escape in Ottawa, the build team at EGC now has more facilities to build for. There is a relatively lengthy build schedule that new missions have to be fit into. That being said, Escape Games Canada is excited for the possibility of welcoming a new mission to the facility soon. So don’t worry yourself asking how often does EGC make new rooms. Instead, ask yourself this question: When’s the next one coming out! And to this we answer: Soon!
