Escape games are meant to be a group activity; and in some cases, they are physically impossible play alone.
Why Four to Six Players Is the Ideal Escape Room Group Size
Really, the “optimal” number of players depends on the escape room and your goals. If you’d just like to get together with some friends and have some fun, then any team size is okay. If your group likes a challenge, then one way to do that is to visit with a smaller team, or a larger team and choosing a higher difficulty room.
If, however, you’re team has people on it whose ultimate goal in life is to beat every escape room they play, then you’d probably want to have more players. The more people you have on your team, the higher your chances are of success.
We’ve been in the escape room business for 12 years now, and we’re constantly working to create adventures that will be fun for teams of various sizes.
Minimum Players Needed for an Escape Room: Three or Four, Depending on the Mission
We set a minimum number of players for each of our missions to make sure your group a reasonable chance of at least getting close to completing the mission. Smaller teams do make your escape more difficult. For about half of our missions, we have a 3 player minimum. For the others, the minimum number of players is 4.
If you’d like to play with 2 players, we can potentially allow that as well, depending on the room. However, please note that you would have to pay for the minimum number of players for your chosen room.
Maximum Escape Room Players: Six to Eight Players, Depending on the Mission
Most of our rooms have a maximum of 8 players, except for Mindshaft which has a maximum of 6 players.
Group sizes are one of the guidelines we think about to make sure that you are getting the most out of your mission. Having maximums helps us ensure that we are complying with fire code, and makes sure that all players are participating safely. But capping the team size is not only a matter of safety… having too many players in a room can make things feel cramped, there may also not be enough things for everyone to do. We want to make sure that when you come to play at Escape Games Canada, you’re having the best experience possible.
At the end of the day, we want to make fun, interactive experiences that will challenge and thrill you. And we want to make sure that everybody who plays has a great time! One of the ways we do that is by ensuring that the minimum and maximum team sizes for each room makes sense.
