Something we get asked all the time is, “which game is your favourite?” So we thought it would be fun to do a blog on the staff’s favourite escape rooms. Everyone in the facility absolutely has their favourites. We’re the first to admit that these opinions are incredibly subjective, but we hope that by going through why we enjoy them, you will enjoy them, too! So read on to find out our staff’s favourite escape rooms!
Zoe
Zoe’s personal pick is the Haunting of Noriko. Zoe thinks that the scares in the room expand on the ambiance and themes within the room. Plus, they love how the theatrical lighting sets you on edge all throughout the game. For them, it’s a room that continues to scare them even though they know what to expect; which is why it continues to be their all time favourite game. Overall, they love how it uses your imagination against you, and that is one of the best tools it has to continue to scare them!
Manda
Manda’s personal pick is the Last Resort, and that’s because she loves horror. But, she also described it as having a tactile feeling. The tactile feeling the room gives her is in the props that it uses and its puzzle design. For her she also loves how the Last Resort uses physical space to make a psychological horror experience. The cherry on top for her is the nods and Easter eggs to our previous horror experience that first made EGC famous, The Unknown (which was her all time favourite escape room!) For her, as someone who played The Unknown twice, The Last Resort feels like a great continuation of The Unknown’s terrifying spirit.
Tessa
Tessa’s favourite room is the Ark because she simply loves the puzzles. She says that they just click in her head when she solves them, which gives her a lot of satisfaction when playing the game. She also likes that the game turns into divergent gameplay halfway through, allowing groups to split up and solve multiple puzzles at once. Tessa also loves how pretty the game’s theme is–and she’s right! The Ark has beautiful décor and set design, modeled after a golden art deco city that is deep beneath the ocean, and what sells it is that the game is filled with old-timey music and props. It also begins with a show of plunging into the ocean in a bathysphere, so she finds that it immerses her into the game even more.
Everyone here at Escape Games Canada has a favourite game, and these are just some of the games we enjoy. Whether that’s because of the tactile nature of the last resort, or the challenge of the Ark, we will all recommend a different game and it just depends on who you ask. So hopefully now you know why we will recommend certain games.
