Hey everyone! We’re going to talk about our move to individual player waivers. There are many reasons for the switch, but we ultimately think that this switch is going to make the process of checking in for a game more convenient. So you might be asking what are player waivers, what the age requirement is for people 13 and older, or what the age requirement is for people under 12. So let’s get into discussing the details of our move to individual player waivers!
Player waivers
In general, player waivers are a way to outline your responsibilities as guests and our responsibilities as an establishment while you’re playing one of our games. Everyone in your group has to sign one, and it should only take you a minute to read through and fill it out. When you book one of our rooms you’ll get an email confirmation that will have a link to our waiver, which you can send out to all your friends. The reason we switched to having individual player waivers is so that each person can assume liability for themselves, which in turn allows us to more easily accommodate players under 16. This change allows us to have a clear set of policies that allow more people to enjoy and experience escape rooms! Overall, we’re confident that introducing individual player waivers will allow us to keep up with the changing landscape of escape rooms in Toronto, and allow for a safer, more convenient experience.
The age requirement for 13 and older
Before our move to individual player waivers, we were strictly a 16 plus facility (which was for liability reasons). But now, with our move to individual waivers, we’ve been able to accommodate people who are 13 and older to play in our escape rooms without the direct supervision of their parents or guardians–they would just need a parent or guardian to sign the waiver on their behalf. Everyone at Escape Games Canada strongly believes that fun should be ageless and wants all players to learn different types of puzzle solving, logic, and communication strategies. So, a big motivation for us to make this change was to give younger people access to the escape rooms that Escape Games Canada creates for a fun, shared experience.
The age requirements for anyone under 12
An exciting change with this move to player waivers is that we’re now able to have players under 12 play in our escape rooms. But, unlike our waiver policy for people who are 13 and older, anyone who is under 12 must play the game with a parent or guardian, someone 18 years of age or older who can assume liability for them. They also must have someone 18 years of age or older to sign the waiver on their behalf. We’re excited because this opens up puzzles and interactive games to a whole new generation! Escape rooms are an extremely unique experience, and this is going to open younger people’s eyes to different types of fun, puzzles, and ways of thinking.
Overall, our move to individual player waivers was done for many specific reasons. The move helps to better align ourselves to include more people of different ages to the brain teasing fun of escape rooms. We actively believe these are games that everyone will enjoy and learn from. So, the next time you’re booking with us, keep an eye out for our waiver in the confirmation email, and get ready to experience logic puzzles, to expand your communication, and to enjoy a unique story!
