If you’ve never played an escape room before, the idea of visiting can be daunting. What if the puzzles are too easy? What if they’re too hard? Will the staff think you’re dumb if you ask a question? These are just some of the concerns that customers approach us with. Don’t worry, we’re not here to judge you, the team at Escape Games Canada is all about sharing our love of escape rooms and having a good time. We want you to feel welcome when you visit us, so with that in mind, here are a few things to know if you’ve never played an escape room before.
How to choose
If you’ve never played an escape room before, then you’re spoiled for choice. Escape Games Canada has seven very different games to choose from. There are so many possibilities that it might seem overwhelming, but picking your first escape room is deceptively simple: choose your game the way you would choose a movie to go see. Pick something that appeals to you and you’re sure to have a good time. Many people wonder about the difficulties of games and try to choose according to how much they want to be challenged. Remember that difficulties are arbitrary estimates, and if you’ve never played before, any game is bound to be a bit tougher.
Getting ready
If you’ve never played an escape room it can be tough to know how to get ready. What should you wear? What should you bring? How early should you arrive? There are a lot of things to consider, but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Preparing for an escape room is much easier than most people think. It’s important to dress comfortably–you want to make sure that you’re wearing clothing that allows you to bend over in case you have to crawl through a physical obstacle or crouch to find a clue. Comfortable shoes are also important–remember, you’ll be wandering around your game for an hour and there may not be anywhere to sit and rest. In terms of what you can take with you, be ready not to take anything! Most escape rooms only allow you to use what you find inside the game to solve it, so plan to be separated from your phone, and not to be allowed light sources or notebooks. Ultimately, there’s not much to physically prepare when you’re headed to an escape room, but you might want to get ready in another way…
Get psyched
Your mindset plays an important role in your escape room experience, so if you’ve never been to an escape room before, make sure you hype yourself up before your game! To be successful you’ll need good teamwork, communication, and a can-do attitude to face all kinds of puzzles. Make sure that you’re ready to face them all with a smile, and you’re sure to have a great time when you play. Remember, escape rooms are games and there are no guarantees that you’ll win, but if you approach the game with positivity you can be sure that your group will have an amazing time! After all, isn’t that what games are all about?
