ESCAPE ROOMS REQUIRE TRUST AND COMMUNICATION
First dates often have those awkward moments of silence and small talk. The kind of moments that, if you’re lucky, you can both look back on and laugh about one day. If your first-time meeting is to play an escape game, there’s no room for that awkward phase. Playing an escape room forces the players to communicate fully; it requires trust between the team members. Unless your date is someone you’ve known for years, the kind of communication you need to successfully complete an escape room just isn’t there and it’ll probably take a few dates before you’re comfortable enough with one another for that kind of activity.

MOST ESCAPE ROOMS ARE BUILT FOR LARGER GROUPS
There are escape rooms that can be played with two people, but so many of them are designed for around four or six players. To be fair, sometimes smaller groups are better at escaping. The challenge to playing in small numbers is that when a game is designed for a larger group, there are tasks or puzzles in that could be much harder or even impossible to solve. Playing with only two players may be doable, but you are likely making the game much tougher than it should be. You obviously don’t want a bunch of friends hanging around on your first date, and you also want a good chance at escaping when you play an escape room making an escape room a less than ideal first date activity.

YOU WANT TO LOOK YOUR BEST ON A FIRST DATE
Our final and most important point is that you don’t want to look stupid on a first date. Can you imagine you’re on a date with someone, you’re playing an escape room and suddenly, they turn to you and ask what you think of a puzzle, but you’re also completely stuck! Or if you’re new to escape games, there’s the possibility that you’re unfamiliar with how they are played, which could leave you looking dazed and confused in front of your new date.
No matter how you look at it, there are several reasons why escape rooms are not good first dates. Go out together a couple of times, get to know each other, establish a relationship where your comfortable communicating and hanging out with each other’s friends and then come play an escape room together.
